Murphy To Announce Senate Candidacy Thursday.
United States Representative Christopher Murphy will announce Thursday that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the United States Senate from Connecticut in 2012, Daily Ructions has learned. Murphy’s declaration follows by one day incumbent Joseph Lieberman’s announcement that he will not seek a 5th term. On Monday, damaged former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz formed a committee to run for the nomination and released a poll showing her the favorite, only days after saying she had no intentions to get into the race.
Murphy, who in November was elected to a third term from the 5th congressional district, will start Thursday in Washington and then travel to Connecticut to meet with local supporters.
Observers expect a fierce fundraising fight between Murphy and Bysiewicz to begin right away with all eyes on their 1st quarter reports when they are released in the spring.
UPDATE: Daily Ructions has learned that an internal Murphy poll has the Cheshire Democrat leading Bysiewicz 47% to 35% among Connecticut Democrats.
UPDATE: Murphy will meet with supporters at the Waverly Tavern Restaurant and Banquet Facility in Cheshire at 5 p.m.

We relish the fight to come. It’s going to be like Clark Kent battling with Lois Lane…….on Bizzaro World!!
No, it’s gonna be like Batman vs. Superman. Linda McMahon is Lois Lane, with steroids.
(and so it begins!)
You are breaking all the news–congratulations!
Murphy appeared with Pelosi at the progressive bloggers convention vowing to push the progressive agenda. So he’s as far left as Pelosi even though he is not obnoxious like her. Of course none of this will matter to CT voters who returned a full compliment of Dems to DC and to Hartford.
something slimy about this guy

Murphy is a nice enough guy. The problem is that he votes whichever way his party leaders tell him to. That is not what we need in government. What we need are individuals who vote based on what’s best for the country, not what will get them reelected, and certainly not simply because that’s what they’ve been instructed to do…
This leaves open the 5th Cong. Dist seat. It is the most GOP seat in the state. Only one potential candidate has a track record of successfully picking up Murphy’s open seats — Sam Caligiuri!
According to Mr. Murphy: “My first, second and third priority is representing the constituents of the 5th District.”
If that be the case, running for the U.S. Senate must be 4th or lower on his list. Why should we vote for someone who openly admits the Senate job is a low priority?
Chris Murphy is bright, hardworking and has represented his constituents in the fifth district extremely well. I have no doubt he will do an excellent job in the Senate.
