Police Union Speaks on Nappier Citation. Treasurer’s Reputation May Need Rehabilitation.
The bizarre story of State Treasurer Denise Nappier’s September 1st encounter with Hartford police seeking routine automobile registration documents and her long walk home took a turn today that may put the contentious treasurer on the backfoot as interest in the story grows.
Connecticut Public Radio’s Jeff Cohen adds some pieces to the puzzle. He reports officers were dispatched to 385 Barbour Street in response to a 911 call. The building, Officer Nazario Figueroa, a police union official, tells Cohen,” is a well-known narcotics outlet, it’s a high-crime area, if you would.”
Figueroa also says that each of the three officers on the scene offered Nappier a ride home on Thursday, contradicting Nappier’s account of the events of September 1st. Nappier says she walked 3 miles to her West End Hartford home and received no offer of a ride from the police.
A potentially lethal disclosure from Figueroa on what the officer dispatched to the scene may have thought: “She’s always thought it was kind of suspicious that the car kind of stuck out. So she runs the plate and nothing came back for the plates.”
