Malloy: Perez Never Told Me He’s Dyslexic Too.

By his own admission, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dannel Malloy is the state’s most famous dyslexic–until today.  Beleaguered Hartford mayor and former gang member Eddie Perez raised a dyslexia defense to bolster his testimony that he’d not read a crucial email raised as evidence by prosecutors in his bribery and conspiracy trial.

Since running for governor in 2006, Malloy’s story of coping with and conquering severe dyslexia from an early age through college, law school, and a political career has become well-known.  Malloy’s wove his tale of struggle into his campaign narrative four years ago and is not reluctant to talk about now.  He told me early this evening that Perez “never mentioned” having dyslexia in the many years they’ve known each other and served as mayors of Connecticut cities.

If you are involved in public life in Connecticut and also dyslexic, you’d mention that to Dan Malloy.  You would.  Malloy and Perez have spent plenty of time together, though not so much lately.  Perez is busy with his difficult criminal trial and, when he can spare a few moments, helping Ned Lamont in his primary fight against Malloy.
